Getting Started: What to expect from Sunny and Sweet

Regardless of whether you’re writing for a huge audience or just for your family, there’s a lot of pressure when it comes to writing your first blog post. For all the time that I’ve spent thinking about writing a blog, you would think that I’d have more of an idea about how I’d like to start things off. It seems as though I’ve spent so much time writing posts and organizing content in my head for a blog that didn’t even exist, but I never actually thought about my first piece. So, I’ve decided, the best way to start is to let everyone know why I’m here!

1. Self-Expression

As an artist, there are so many ways to express yourself, and for the better part of my life, these things have been about personal growth. I don’t commonly share my art, and when I do it’s difficult to find the right platform. I want a place to share some of the creative things I do and to push myself as a writer and a photographer.

2. Making People Smile

I’ve been following self-care and mindfulness blogs for a while now, and while you might turn up your nose at these practices, for me they have made a major difference in the way I live. Finding happiness in your everyday life can be really difficult for all of us these days, and stress has a way of finding its way back into our lives. In many ways, we have to train ourselves to be happy. If I can help just one person be happier, I will have succeeded with this blog.

Now that you know my main reasons for starting a blog, here are a few ideas of what you might expect to see on here in the future:

Food

Originally, I thought about just starting a food blog. I’ve been getting more and more into cooking, and I was inspired when my friend started her own food Instagram. The problem is that I don’t have a kitchen in my dorm. The food that I post about will probably be pretty simple, but you can count on some great recipes over break!

Books

There’s nothing I love more than reading! (Any fellow English majors out there?) Since I do so much of it, I thought it would be fun to post about what I’m reading, give out recommendations, and start conversations about books.

Lifestyle

This is kind of the miscellaneous category. Sometimes, there are going to be things that I want to write about that don’t seem to fit with any of my categories. While most of the internet told me to write about my “niche,” I find it hard to limit myself to one subject. There are so many topics that I find interesting, and I want to see where this blog takes me.

Travel

My passion for travel has been a growing one. When I picture myself as a writer, usually my dreams involve traveling and learning about the world. I have some exciting trips coming up, and I hope I can share those experiences here.

I leave you all with this quote by one of my favorite poets:

“Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.”
