Barceloneta Beach, Barcelona Part III

Barceloneta Beach, Barcelona Part III

Believe it or not, my favorite day in Barcelona wasn’t our day in Park Güell; it was our last day there. We headed to the beach! We picked Barceloneta, a lovely strip of beach with lots of places to eat and relax. My Barcelona travel list was relatively short: see the city center, visit Park Güell, and go to the beach, so there was really only one thing left to do. We took the morning to sleep in, and then made it to the beach around noon.

The city is quite lazy at this time of day, still waking up just like we were. Since we were so groggy, we decided to start our afternoon with some coffee. Walking barefoot along the boardwalk that ran just along the beach, we surveyed the different restaurants in search of a relaxing place. We ended up in the very last restaurant on the strip, where we lounged outside on sofas taking in the view of the beach, the feel of the breeze, and the sound of the sea. We both ordered a café con leche, and it was good vibes all around.

Once we’d been refueled, we started to wander down the beach were the sea chilled our ankles and the rocks toughened the soles of our feet. It was amazing along the shore; little treasures adorned the sand in every color. Pieces of tiles that had been rounded out by the waves and hunks of smooth sea-glass lay at our feet. We took our time strolling down the surf, picking up souvenirs to bring home. It reminded me of being a little girl and exploring the beach on Cape Cod with my grandparents. Back then, we always filled our pockets with sea-stones, and that day in Barcelona was no different.

With the ocean cooling our feet and the warm sun on my bare shoulders, I couldn’t have been happier. There was something incredibly peaceful about that time that put me at ease completely. When we had finished our walk, we laid out all our discoveries to make a mosaic of our own.

At this point, it was time for lunch, so we found our way back to the boardwalk strip where all the restaurants wanted our business. Each host enticed us with offers of comfortable seats and good food, but we took our time picking a place to eat. We ended up at perhaps the most glamorous place I had ever eaten. It was a nightclub, transformed into a restaurant during the day. Out on the boardwalk, white sofas and umbrellas created a classy haven for us to sip sangria and eat our lunch leisurely.

I have to say, Barcelona really does have the best Sangria. I could’ve drunk it all day, and I suppose, really, we did. Larkin and I lounged there until the sun was just about to go down, reading our books, chatting and sipping away at our pitcher. It was one of the classiest things I’ve ever done, and well worth the money spent on the sangria.

After our luxurious time spent there, we headed out along one of the piers to take in the start of the sunset. Before heading into the city, where the colors of the sky just kept getting better. It’s safe to say, my last day in Barcelona was truly a success.
